The PRDA is a safety mechanism on 52 L, 215 L, and 1250 LASME CYCLE-TAINER solvent delivery systems designed to automatically vent if the pressure within the container exceeds the disk's set limits. Unlike the pressure relief valve (PRV), the PRDA does not reset itself after venting.
There are three main reasons that the disk may rupture:
- Excess pressure within the container can cause the disk to rupture. Therefore, it is important to maintain proper operating pressure for the size and type of container. See for recommended operating pressures.
- The disk can also rupture if the container is dropped on its side or is otherwise mishandled. It is important that the containers be secured to pallets during shipping so that they remain upright.
- Improper venting may cause the disk to rupture. Any vent tubing that is used for the PRDA must not apply vacuum pressure to the disk membrane. It is not advisable to directly connect any vacuum tubing to the PRDA. Atmospheric pressure is recommended for direct connections. In addition, any fitting that is threaded into the PRDA port should not touch or interfere with the rupture disk membrane.
