Regenerating Molecular Sieves
Information
Question | I used a molecular sieve to dry a reagent. Can I use it again? How do I regenerate it and make it suitable to use again? |
Answer |
After use, the molecular sieve can be regenerated (i.e. dried) by heating a thin layer in an oven. Spread the molecular sieve out on a metal pan (or other heat resistant pan) and place in an oven at 350 to 500 F (~180 to 260 C) for about an hour. The use of a vacuum may allow for lower regeneration temperatures. It is then once again ready for use. Assuming that the product you are drying is clean, you can regenerate and the use the molecular sieve many times. Repeated regeneration has little effect on the efficiency or capacity as desiccants.
