Tromethamine (Tris) Yellow Discoloration
Information
Question | Why does tromethamine sometimes turn yellow when in solution? |
Answer |
Tromethamine can turn yellow in aqueous solution for a number of reasons. If the tromethamine crystals are yellow, then a solution of the crystals may also be yellow. Relatively high iron content can also result in yellow crystals. In addition, a yellow tint can occur when using water for injection (WFI) for solution preparation. WFI is often treated with ozone or hydrogen peroxide for sterilization. Trace levels of these oxidizing agents in the water may cause yellowing of the tromethamine solution.
